Weekly Oak Island Fishing Report

Oak Island Outdoor & Fishing Report

by

Not many changes from last week…just lots of good fishing! We have not seen too many changes this week in the walleye fishing near Oak Island from last week. The fishing continues to be great! Twenty-six to twenty-eight feet of water on the reefs using flashy colored spinners tipped with a minnow or twenty-one to twenty-three feet in the mud using shad raps has been the hot spots.  Falcon Island and areas south of Oak Island and Little Oak still are producing very well.

Muskies and Pike
The muskies and northern pike are active.  We have thousands of weedy bay and rock point’s s to choose from just a few miles away from the resort. Spinner and jerk baits have been working well. Top water late in the day has been very successful.  We have seen some very large 50+ inch muskies lately as well as many 20-30 inch muskies and northerns too.

A look ahead
Beautiful fall foliage and excellent walleye, crappie fishing will soon be upon us. Make your reservations now and fall into walleyes with our reduced fall rates!  Ask about our hot Eagle Ridge stay 3 nights and get the 4th night free deal!

Good Fishing

by

The best areas to find some good fishing have been around Johnston Passage, Skeet and Little Oak Island in 25’-30’ of water. Jigging with a 3/8 oz jig tipped with a minnow or crawler has been working best for walleyes.

Muskies & Pike
Several areas around Falcon Island have been phenomenal for some good muskie fishing. The guides have some awesome spots that have been producing consistently on the rocks. Slow jerk baits and faster moving spinners and blades has been the best tackle. A guest caught a 38” muskie the other day that had some big claw marks in it. It must have possibly got in a little tangle with an eagle or something of that nature. Anglers also are reporting reeling in a few muskies and pike while targeting walleyes. They must be hungry!

Great weather and excellent fishing.
We are reeling in some nice fish this week. Check out this muskie! What a catch! Points and rock piles have been successful. The guides know right where the action is and have lots of great tips to get you one that looks just like this! The muskie bite is the best July through October.

Walleyes
Best bite has been in 26’-30’ jigging with minnows or spinners tipped with a crawler. Massacre Island, Deep Water Bay and Skeet Island have all been hot spots.

Pike
Smaller fish have been found in big bays up shallow and the larger pike around points and rock piles. Casting flashy spoons or rapalas have been working well.

Sparkling Waters & Walleyes
Beautiful weather this week. Now is one of the best times to visit I think. The weather is warm, the scenery is incredible and the fishing is great. Walleyes this week have been biting on gold or orange jigs tipped with a minnow in 26-30 feet of water. Rocky areas and points have been some of the best spots.

Muskies are starting to get hungry. Check out this 49 inch Muskie caught and released by Amy Sheffer. Amy was guided by Captain Jordan. Amy caught this lunker on a lil orange rapala; Anglers have been finding muskies lurking in rock piles and shallow bays. Some of the best tackle has been Amy’s lil orange rapala and small fast blades.

Pike
Many nice 25”+ pike have been caught in shallow bays this week. Flashy blades and rapalas have been working well.

Island Paradise

Ahhh…floating around enjoying the island scenery and reeling in walleyes. This is what summer is all about!

This week their has been an active walleye bite.  Some of the best areas continue be along the shallow shorelines jigging with jig tipped with a leech or a minnow. Most of the walleyes caught lately have been 15+ inches in size.  Pike and bass fishing have been good in the nearby bays just 4-5 miles away from the lodge. Casting for pike and bass with spoons that have a shine to them seem to be doing best. A few muskies have been found but we are looking to warmer temperatures before we really see this guys start to snap.

Spend the 4th of July with us!

We still have a few openings for the weekend and holiday if you’re looking to break away. If you’re looking for peace and quiet this is the place to go!

Mid-June Fishing

by

Drifting with gold or bright orange jigs or spinners tipped with a minnow has been doing best for catching walleyes. Areas with a good bite have been Little Oak Island and Tug Channel in 20-25 feet of water. Walleyes have been found on rocks eating crawfish or in mud eating hatches. Some nice pike are also being found in 22’-28’ of water using flashy spoons and shad raps.

Muskie fishing on the Ontario side opens this Saturday!
Lake of the Woods is an awesome lake to find huge muskies and the Ontario side has some of the best spots just a hop, skip and a jump away from us. Green cabbage weeds are going to be great places to start in between small islands and weedy bays. Flashy crank baits and buck tails are great for the stained Lake of the Woods waters. Get ready to do some casting the season is about to start! Guides available!

The bite is picking up!
Some nice 14”-16” walleyes are being found points in 20’-24’ of water but, they are on the move! Anglers are starting to see some large schools move to the edges of the reefs. Jigging with gold or orange jigs tipped with a minnow or gold or orange crawler harnesses tipped with a crawler has been the most successful. Summer is here! Time to get out fishing!

Decent Pike Fishing this week
Shallow bays have been the best spot to find pike but like the walleyes, they are also on the move deeper. Flashy spoons and shad raps have been the hot ticket. The average size of the pike this week has been between 22”-28”.

Going Deeper

by

The walleyes are starting to move into their early summer patterns moving deeper into 18’-22’ this week. The average walleye size has been in the 14”-15” range, perfect for the fry pan. Gold, pink and orange 3/8 oz. jigs tipped with a minnow has been the best approach but many anglers are also finding success with spinners and 1-2 ounce sinker or shad raps as well.

Pike
Pike are aggressive in the shallow bays using flashy spoons. Few reports have come in of anglers picking up a few jigging for walleyes too. You just never know what you might catch! We have a large class of nice trophy size pike swimming the lake right now so fishing pike on Lake of the Woods is definitely worth your time!

Bass
Bass have been found in the same areas as the pike as well as jigging with minnows along shore lines in 12’-16’.

Muskie
Muskie fishing is going to start heating up real soon. July-October is the best time to catch these mighty fish. Guided trips still available. Give us a call 800-772-8411.

Walleyes, walleyes, walleyes

by

Nice 14”-18” walleyes are being found in 20’-24’ of water using gold or orange jigs and minnows this week. Areas around points and reefs south of Oak Island and around Falcon Island on the Ontario side are some of the hot spots this week.

Bass & Pike
Anglers have been getting into some nice bass in the shallow weeds using brightly colored spoons. Pike are hitting on small spinner baits in 7-10’ of water along shorelines.

Yum, fresh fish!
Be sure to book a shore lunch on your next trip with a guide. There is nothing better in my mind than fresh fried walleye and all the fixings midday or at the end of the day with backdrop of the lake.
