Sportsman’s Oak Island Lodge

The water is heating up, and so is the fishing! After a late ice out, the water on the northern end of the lake is warming up quickly. Some spots have already heated up to over 48 degrees! This warming has equated to some stellar fishing around the northern islands. Jigging using gold tackle and minnows has yielded both quality and quantity walleye, jumbo perch and northern pike. As far as depth and location, anglers have had just as much luck in shallow water (5’+) along the shorelines as they have in the deep bays.

The weather seems to have finally transitioned to what is normal for early June, pleasant days with highs in  the 70s and lows dipping into the 50s. Click here for a complete 10-day forecast.

Charlie Hilligoss from Silva, IL reeled in this 30” walleye with a gold jig over the weekend. Charlie and his friends fished their way from the south shore of Lake of the Woods up to Oak Island with Captain Darryl.
