Emerald Shiner Run Update
Late run this year! Looks like the big push might not be until November. We have heard of a few reports with fair luck, but nothing great yet. The water temperature continues to slowly tick lower, currently now forty-two degrees, but the big walleye fishing extravaganza in the river just hasn’t happened yet. Have no fear, the lake bite is awesome!
Strong Lake Bite Continues
A strong lake bit still remains on Lake of the Woods. The hot spots have been Lighthouse Gap in 20’-30’ of water, with the evening bite proving to be the strongest, Knight Island(18’-25’) , Zippel Bay(15-20’) and Morris Point (15’-20’). Reports of 75-100 fish per day have not been uncommon when you find that sweet spot. The bait of choice continues to be the frozen shiners and live ones if you can find some. Log Cabin bait just a mile down the road from Sportsman’s is a good stop to locate shiners. Come on up, only a few more weeks of soft water fishing!
Sharp Tailed Grouse Season just moving into peak
Just out myself this weekend and boy has it got easier to see these pretty little chickens. We were just out for a few hours and saw 7, got 5. The leaves continue to fall and the birds are in abundance. Come and explore the Beltrami Island State Forest right out of our back door! Over 66,000 acres to explore! www.dnr.state.mn.us
