Lake of the Woods South Shore Fishing Report 8-19-09

Extraordinary Walleye Fishing

Another great week of fishing was enjoyed by guests this week. Walleye Fishing either bait fishing with a hammered gold spinner tipped with a minnow or trolling with shad raps brought in some nice fish.  The best fishing has been around twenty-eight feet to thirty-five feet of water around north and south of Garden Island, Zippel Bay and Lighthouse Gap of Lake of the Woods.  Their was some nice big fish between twenty-five to thirty inches as well enough good eater size to fill a limit within a few days.

Fall is around the corner

The murky water around Lighthouse Gap has really started to clear up. A good sign that fall fishing is just around the corner. We are about a month out of the legendary “Emerald Shiner Run” In late September the Rainy River and Four Mile Bay experience a shiner run that generally lasts through the formation of ice. The Walleyes follow the shiners into the Rainy River providing high Walleye concentrations. This is some of the best close in Walleye action of the year.
