Mixed bag
Variety of walleyes, saugers, perch and pike have been caught this week. Jigging with plain hooks or glow in the dark jigs right on bottom has worked best. It has been a light bite so make sure you are jigging and set the hook!  Best depth has been in 23’-29’. Vexilars really help the success rate.

Ice Conditions
Currently we have three feet of ice in the areas we fish and travel

Walleyes, Saugers and Perch
50% Walleyes, 40% saugers and 10% perch are the species coming through the holes this week including many nice 15-16 inch walleyes. Jigging a white jig with red eye tipped with a minnow continues to be the hot piece of tackle.  On the clear days, shallower depths 23’-26’ have been producing better and on the cloudy days 27’-30’.

Afternoon bite has been best!
The afternoon bite has been best this week.  Nice mixes of walleyes and saugers have been caught this week. Several slot sized walleyes (19.5”-28”) and some very nice saugers 14”-17”.  Jigging and dad sticking have both been working equally as well.  The houses have been doing best in 24’-30’ of water on varies reefs. Plain colored hooks with beads, gold jigs and white jigs with red eyes have been working well tipped with a minnow.  We are now heading into the last half of our season. Where does the time go?  If you haven’t made it up this year, give us a call 800-772-8411!

Ice Conditions
Currently we have between 30-34 inches of ice in the areas we fish and travel

Trail Conditions
Trail conditions are fair. Lake trails are better than the land trails. Warm temperatures and lack of snow fall has made the conditions tough this year. Grooming still continues when conditions permit. An inch of snow is forecasted for Wednesday and Friday at this point.

Until next week! Have a great week of fishing!

Fishing remains good!
A mix of jigging and dead heading right off bottom with a 3/8 oz red jig with a white eye tipped with a minnow has been hot in 24’-28’ of water! Boy oh boy!  The walleyes, saugers and occasional perch have been hungry.  The best time of day has been all over the map. Some houses do the best for the first two hours in the morning and late afternoon and others do best midday.

Ice Conditions
We have 30”-32” of ice in the areas we fish and travel. Looking good to bring us right through late March!

Trail Report
The lake trail from the south shore of Lake of the Woods to Oak Island was moved yesterday due to some pressure ridge issues. The new trail is in much better shape and will is being groomed today.  The Baudette to Warroad trail will be re-routed later this week or next for the same reasons.   Like always be sure to use caution especially when temperature changes fluctuate rapidly.  Snow conditions are ok at this time. We could use more, however riders are finding some decent conditions on some of the trails. For more information on the land trails, click here for the Drifters Snowmobile Club Facebook page for the Baudette area and here for the Northwest Angle Edge Riders Club for the northwest angle and oak island area.

Great bite!

by

Ice fishing has really picked up the past week. We are seeing lots of nice 15”-16” walleyes along with a few saugers, nice jumbo perch and northern pike. Jigging with gold, pink or macho minnow #29 in 22’-29’ of water has been hot! A few anglers have also had success dead sticking so we recommend trying a little of each and don’t forget your vexilar or reserve one from us. They really help your success!  Great fishing is only a few miles from the lodge. Choose our meal plan or order a lunch the night prior for a hot lunch delivered right to your house. It’s prime time ice fishing time! Give us a call to reserve your trip now through late March.

Oak Island Ice Conditions & Fishing Report

January 2, 2014

Anglers have been reporting catching their limits in depths around 24’. Pink, white or green jigs tipped with minnows or shiners have been getting results. The morning bite or right before dark is bringing anglers their best success.

Ice Road is open!
The ice road from Young’s Bay to Oak Island is plowed and open.

Snowmobile Trails
Lake Trails – All lake trails are staked except The Angle to Warroad. The snowmobile trail has been moved and marked around the cracks around Garden Island and Knight Island. If you venture off the trail, be advised there are some pressure ridges around the lake. Grooming is dependent upon snow.

Happy Holidays Everyone!

by

A good afternoon bite has been going on in a variety of depths between 18’-28’ of water. Anglers have been catching many good eating sized and small walleyes. Swedish pimples and gold jigs tipped with a minnow have worked well. Vexilars always seem to help angler’s success. Rent one from us or bring one along.

Ice Conditions
The ice got a little sloppy the past week but we have lost no ice. Today quite a bit of the slush has froze. We have 14”-15” of ice in the areas we travel and fish. Starting today we have been getting colder. Currently it is 14 degrees but with the wind chill factor we are sitting at -1. The forecast is calling for lows below zero in the week ahead. This forecast is great for our ice conditions!

Ice Road from Young’s Bay to Oak Island
The ice road is open and plowed. Come on out!

Trails
Lake trails are marked from Baudette to Oak Island and Baudette to Warroad. The trails are in poor condition. We have just a dusting of snow. If you decide to venture out, watch out for the pressure ridges. The fluctuation in temperatures makes them move. The ridge just south of Garden Island especially has been an issue. We are hoping January gives us cooler stable temperatures and some snow to shape up the trails.
