Sportsman’s Oak Island Lodge

The season has begun!
We started our season at Sportsman’s Oak Island Lodge Dec 26. The ice is in good shape, the plowed road to the island is open and the fish are biting! Check out the pictures from yesterday.

The bite
Jigging using gold and pink 3/8 oz. jigs and buck shots tipped with a minnow has been hot.  Anglers are finding good luck in 16’-22’.  A mix of walleye and saugers are biting.

Nice 21 inch walleye caught and released by the Haesly Group on a gold jig and minnow.

Ice Conditions
Currently we have 12-16 inches of ice in the areas we fish and travel.

Plowed road to the resort from the Northwest Angle
The road is plowed out from Young’s Bay at the Northwest Angle out to the lodge. We have signs posted. Come on out!

Trail Report
The Rainy River and lake trails are marked with black stakes from Baudette to Oak Island and Baudette to Warroad.  Crews found 11-17 inches of ice on the trail. Packing of the trails is being done now and grooming will start as soon as we get 21-24 inches of ice. A nice 5-7 inches of snow is on the trail with some drifts. Conditions may vary off the trail. For your best ride stay on the trail and watch for caution areas.
